For Rhoda’s 50th birthday celebration, Lush & Lavish Events had the privilege of creating an elegant milestone celebration within one of Brisbane’s most distinguished heritage venues, Tattersall’s Club Brisbane.
Set within the Members’ Bar, a space rich with history and character, the venue already possessed an undeniable sense of grandeur. With its heritage architecture, vaulted ceilings and timeless interiors, it provided the perfect foundation for a sophisticated evening surrounded by 100 of Rhoda’s closest family and friends.
The vision was simple: create something beautiful.
Having previously styled two celebrations for Rhoda’s sister, Saru, this was the third event our team had created for their family. Through those previous experiences, Rhoda came to Lush & Lavish Events with complete trust and creative freedom, allowing us to design a celebration that reflected the elegance of the venue while making the occasion feel truly personal.
The result was a refined 50th birthday celebration that blended heritage charm with modern luxury through considered styling, thoughtful design choices and carefully curated details.
Designing Around the Character of Tattersall’s Club Brisbane
When working within a venue with more than a century of history, the goal is not to overpower the space. It is to complement what already exists.
Tattersall’s Club Brisbane provided a naturally sophisticated backdrop with its heritage details and timeless atmosphere. Our approach was to introduce styling elements that enhanced the venue’s existing beauty while creating a warmer, more intimate setting for a milestone celebration.
The design direction centred around a classic palette of deep burgundy and olive green, creating a sense of quiet luxury. These rich tones were selected to work harmoniously with the venue’s heritage interiors, adding depth and warmth while maintaining the elegance of the space.
Rather than creating a design that competed with the venue, every element was chosen to feel as though it belonged there.
The styling became an extension of the room itself.
Creating Intimacy Within a Grand Space
One of the most important considerations was balancing the scale of the venue with the intimacy of the celebration.
With high ceilings and a large dining space, there was an opportunity to create a more inviting atmosphere without losing the grandeur that made the venue special.
During our venue research, we discovered that Tattersall’s Club Brisbane had the ability to install fairy lights across the balcony area. This was not something initially discussed with the client or venue team, but through our own research into the venue’s possibilities, we recognised the opportunity to elevate the overall experience.
Working with the venue, we incorporated the balcony fairy lighting above the event space, creating a soft glow that transformed the room.
The addition brought warmth and intimacy to the expansive room while allowing the beautiful vaulted ceilings to remain a feature. It was a subtle design choice, but one that completely changed the atmosphere of the evening.

A Classic Luxury Design With Modern Details
The styling was carefully curated to reflect Rhoda’s milestone celebration with a sense of sophistication and timeless elegance.
The colour palette of burgundy red and olive green flowed throughout the space, brought to life through organic floral arrangements featuring lush greenery, burgundy roses, hydrangeas and dahlias.
Premium artificial florals were layered throughout the design, creating a rich and abundant look while maintaining the refined atmosphere of the venue.
The entrance welcomed guests with personalised signage and a statement fabric seating chart, which became one of the first moments of the celebration. Designed specifically for the event, the seating chart added a luxurious and unexpected touch while guiding guests into the evening.
An Elevated Dining Experience
The dining room was designed to feel elegant, warm and immersive.
Ten round guest tables were styled with a combination of tall gold plinth centrepieces, floral arrangements, taper candles and tea lights. The elevated floral designs created beautiful visual height throughout the room, while the candlelight added softness and warmth as the evening unfolded.
To further elevate the tablescape, black table linens were paired with olive green cloth napkins, gold cutlery, chargers and personalised printed menus created specifically for Rhoda’s celebration.
These details transformed the dining experience from a standard venue setup into a carefully curated celebration.
Every element, from the textures and colours to the placement of each detail, contributed to the overall atmosphere of understated luxury.
A Statement Moment for a Milestone Celebration
The focal point of the room was the custom birthday feature installation.
A black arch with personalised “Rhoda’s 50th” signage formed the foundation of the design, complemented by two large floral pillars and layers of green velvet draping woven through different frames and arches.
The combination of rich textures, deep floral tones and soft fabric elements created a statement backdrop that felt elegant and modern while remaining connected to the heritage setting.
Positioned as part of the overall room design, the backdrop provided a beautiful focal point without overwhelming the venue.
A thoughtful spatial decision was also made regarding the DJ placement. Rather than positioning the DJ beside the backdrop, we recommended relocating them to the rear of the room. This created a cleaner visual area around the feature installation, allowing the backdrop to remain the hero moment and improving the overall flow of the space.
These small decisions are what create a polished event experience.

While the final result appeared effortless, the preparation behind the scenes required careful planning and teamwork.
The initial details for the celebration came together approximately one month before the event, with the final event requirements confirmed just one week before the celebration.
Within seven days, our team managed the complete styling process, including:
